Christchurch City Council Candidates

Christchurch City Council People's Choice Candidates

  • As a fourth generation Lytteltonian my love for our Peninsula runs deep. I have worked hard on our Community Board to value our environment, strengthen our partnership with hapū, honour our heritage, and fight for core infrastructure and services.

I will continue to support the things that help us build prosperous communities and prepare us for the challenges of climate change.

After a decade working as an analyst in London’s financial district, I gained a master’s degree in social work, supporting our most vulnerable young people and their families. These experiences have taught me to deliver under pressure in tough situations and build rewarding relationships with people from all walks of life, which will serve me well on our Council.

I pledge to listen to and learn from you, to protect our environment and special character, and give it everything fighting for what our Peninsula needs and deserves.

  • The Burwood Ward needs a fair deal - since the earthquakes we’ve been left behind. Many of our roads and footpaths still need fixing. Plus we need safe, healthy, connected neighbourhoods.

I grew up in the East, am Deputy Chair of my Community Board, a Mum to six grown-up kids, qualified lawyer and small business owner.

During my time on the Community Board, I’ve worked hard for the East, for Cranmer Square residents during the protests, and on a memorial for former Sunnyside patients.

I’ve got a track record as an effective community advocate – as a DHB member, at Community Law, as a school Board Chair and for maternity, mental health and disability issues.

If elected, I’ll hold regular community clinics, and be accountable to residents.

My kids will tell you I’m like ‘a dog with a bone’. I’ll be ‘a dog with a bone’ for the East.

  • I’m a Beckenham resident who has had the privilege of serving you on the Community Board for the past three years.

I’ve worked with the community to implement a 40kph zone in Beckenham with transitional improvements to intersections and school crossings. We’ve worked with Central Government and Council to secure $10 million for traffic works in South Christchurch focused on safety improvements, and we’ve fought for safety improvements to intersections like Cashmere/Dyers and Cashmere/Barrington. We’ve also secured a permanent site for the South Christchurch farmers market.

I will keep working with the community to restore the Ōpāwaho-Heathcote River and push for strong regulations to reduce harmful run-off. Let’s get more trees planted in our streets and on the Port Hills!

In a climate emergency, transforming transport to low-emission modes is vital: more buses, delivering light rail, every child having a safe walking and cycling route to their local school, and accelerating local cycleways.

  • My principal place of residence is Hornby.

I am dedicated to ensuring our community thrives. It is important that the health and wellbeing of our community comes first.

My career is centred on improving working conditions in our communities and being sensitive to the increasing cost of living, to ensure a positive flow-on effect for families.

I bring experience working on local community projects as a long-standing community volunteer for Rotary. I am also co-ordinating the fundraising campaign for the hydrotherapy pool for the Greater Hornby Residents’ Association.

Public transport, quarries, climate change and safety are important to our community and I will be taking a stand on these issues. Our community deserves to be heard, valued, and have someone who is prepared to fight for them. You can count on me to do this for you.

I'm standing for my children, your children, for you, and for the future of our Ward.

  • I am an experienced Councillor from Woolston with a strong record of getting positive things done to improve the East.

Achievements this term include getting the Linwood Pool built, a lower Heathcote River guidance plan adopted, restoring Lancaster Park for recreation, and fighting hard to get rid of the offensive and objectionable odours from the Organics Processing Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

I’m supportive of: reducing flooding risk, keeping strategic assets in public ownership, improving maintenance of parks, footpaths, roads, cemeteries, and rivers. I firmly believe the priority should be fixing broken infrastructure in the suburbs ahead of gold-plating central city streets. I’m opposed to: the permanent chlorination/privatisation of water, excessive CEO salaries, and ugly urban development that ruins amenity and neighbourhoods.

I’m proud to stand up for  social justice, environmental equity, and transparent decision-making that puts local people and communities at the heart of what gets done.

  • I am the current Councillor for Spreydon, have a PhD in biochemistry and was a Research Scientist for 10 years. I also have business experience as the Director of my own education company, AHeadStart Ltd.

While elected, I have assisted residents to establish local community groups, and retain local facilities such as the Hoon Hay Community Centre. I have also encouraged diversity and participation in local democracy, especially with a focus on our young people.

Council needs to get the basics right, including fixing footpaths and repairing roads. Financial prudence in decision-making is essential.

My top priorities for Council include access to pure drinking water with reliable infrastructure; accessible parks and recreational facilities; clean, healthy waterways and ecosystems; planning for climate change; and safe and reliable travel for everyone.

Your vote will enable me to continue to support and advocate for our community.

  • Three years ago I asked for your support and was humbled to become your Councillor. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and I’m asking for your continued support to keep delivering for our community.

I’ve secured a much-needed refresh of the area around the Stanmore Road shops, and a well-deserved Living Wage for city workers. I’m working on free pool access for children, because water safety is important and we need to reduce tragedies, and I’ve championed the crack down on land banking in our central city. But I know there’s still more to do and I’ve got a long list of things to crack on with including getting our shuttle bus back and investing in light-rail.

I’m more committed than ever to working hard with our community to ensure the Central Ward continues to have a strong voice.

  • As your Councillor I have loved building strong connections with local organisations and volunteers. Close to my heart is the ability for residents to lead on what they see as important in their neighbourhoods.

I have continued to build my skills through chairing boards and training in the Resource Management Act. I successfully advocated for the Residents’ Association to manage the St Albans Community Centre, and ensured the acquisition of nearby land, which is now a flourishing Community Garden. This year I initiated and drove a successful bid for a $3M Council contribution to the Edgeware Pool. Our city can only be as strong as its people, so community facilities are crucial as places to connect and inspire.

Christchurch, “A National Park City”, can emerge when we cast a Climate Change lens across every decision, reduce our emissions and continue funding Councils’ Biodiversity programmes.

Vote for Pauline Cotter - Inspiring Innes.

  • As a father, I care deeply about this place for us and for those after us. Riccarton is filled with some amazing people, who like me, care for their neighbourhood. We have so much environmental and economic potential, let’s build on that.

By day, I work with youth in sports and also run a business consultancy. I am a strong advocate for young people, local businesses, and community resilience, and have experience in high-performance sports, business development, and governance. I am also enjoying being part of the Canterbury West Melton Water Zone Committee.

I am a solutions-focused person who is passionate about people and I’m always looking to bring about positive change. I want to focus on inclusive and accessible facilities, green spaces for families and residents, clean drinking water, and reliable public transport. I also want to see business boom!

Let’s work together so that Riccarton thrives.
