Welcome to The Peoples Choice in Local Government in Christchurch

Ōtautahi, Christchurch is an amazing place to live and, with the right leadership, it can be even better. 

That’s why the People’s Choice team is running: we are a group of 31 proud, passionate Christchurch residents from across the city and Banks Peninsula who will work with you to strengthen our neighbourhoods and communities. 

The People’s Choice team believes in enhancing the things we all love about Christchurch to make it even better by: 

• Keeping, building, and enhancing pools, libraries, parks, and playgrounds;

• making sure all our neighbourhoods and communities get a fair deal;

• making it easier to get around and more affordable to live;

• restoring and protecting our beautiful natural environment;

• ensuring clean and pure drinking water for generations to come;

• and safeguarding our city’s assets.

We’re ordinary community-minded people who are passionate about Christchurch, and have come together as a team to make sure our city and region heads into the future prepared and on the right path. 

We’re running because now isn’t the time to cut the things that make Christchurch such a vibrant and connected place to live. There are candidates in this election who want to cut services, sell our assets and skimp on the necessities. 

These are our assets. They belong to all of us. As a team, The People’s Choice will work together to ensure we keep them and that Christchurch keeps heading in the right direction.

Christchurch deserves a council that listens, that is connected to the community, and that takes positive action to get things done. That’s what we will deliver, working together.

Christchurch has risen to many challenges in the last 12 years, with practical compassion and determination - we can take on inequality, global uncertainty and climate change with the same spirit, to grow a fair, sustainable, and innovative city that is affordable for everyone.
